Remote work continues to be a hotly debated topic.
While on the one hand, working remotely or from home can offer greater flexibility which is a win from a diversity and inclusion perspective, it can make managing the boundaries between home and work life even more challenging, which can have a negative impact on wellbeing.
This World Economic Forum article describes how this blurring of boundaries has led a number of countries to implement “right to disconnect” laws.
“Right to disconnect” laws generally seek to prevent employers from expecting employees to answer calls, text messages or emails outside of working hours, at weekends or on public holidays.
Countries such as Kenya, Belgium, France and Portugal have already introduced “right to disconnect” laws.
Organisations must therefore consider:
